Not all hybrids are boring econoboxes designed for practicality and fuel economy. In fact, these 10 are the exact opposite.

Not long ago, any mention of hybrid cars would immediately spawn images of annoyingly environmentally-friendly economy cars such as the yawn-inducing Toyota Prius. However, over the years, car manufacturers have proven that these hybrids can offer more power besides offering great gas mileage. They are a significant performance threat to modern electric cars.

Since the holy trinity supercars used hybrid technology, we've seen some supremely desirable examples that can go fast. While we still get the boring gas-mileage-conscious hybrids, performance hybrids offer a great formula, earning the right to be among the cool cars.

The Lexus LC is a luxurious sports car with a sumptuously rich interior. It excels at providing a strong sense of occasion and a smooth ride rather than offering ludicrous performance. The LC is available in two body styles, a coupe and a convertible, which are equally gorgeous.

The LC500h gets a gas-electric drivetrain that combines a 3.5-liter V6 with a 1.1 kWh battery to produce 354 hp. It also gets a continuously variable automatic transmission that mimics the action of their 10-speed automatic transmission in the non-hybrid variants.

Although some Porsche purists aren't for the brand creating vehicles like the Cayenne, the Turbo iterations make fun and practical SUVs that you can comfortably park in your driveway. The Turbo S E Hybrid offers a punchy 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and an electric motor to produce 670 hp.

The result is eye-popping acceleration and handling so adroit you'll forget you're in an SUV. For the performance, you'll need to pay a princely price tag. However, you can enjoy a refined interior filled with features like onboard Wi-Fi and a large 12.3-inch infotainment display.

Besides being one of the prettiest hybrids on the market, the Polestar 1 is also an elegant 2+2 coupe. It's the coolest hybrid from Volvo and their halo car in the performance EV segment. The Polestar 1 has an interior design that matches Volvo's signature style.

Under the hood of the Polestar 1 is a supercharged and turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. The Polestar 1 also gets three electric motors, one at the front and two at the rear. The combination provides an all-wheel drive system while developing a total output of 619 hp ad 738 lb-ft of torque.

We've gotten used to a 4.0-liter Biturbo V8-powered C63 sports car for years. However, Mercedes-AMG is taking a different approach with its newer models. The high-performance C63 will now get a radically different engine; a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and an electric motor.

The Panamera Turbo lineup offers an unmistakable road presence and a potent turbocharged V8. It features Porsche's sporting ethos in a four-door form. Unlike the two-door Porsche sports cars with a rear-mounted engine, the Panamera has its engine at the front.

The standard Panamera Turbo extracts 620 ponies from its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8. However, the Turbo S E Hybrid ups the ante with 689 hp. The power increase helps the Turbo S E Hybrid keep up with any high-powered sports sedan. The added electric motor in the hybrid offers an electric-only driving mode of more than 20 miles and speeds of up to 83 mph.

The AMG GT sedan synthesizes presence and performance in a way that only a few four-door sedans can. Even though it builds on the E Class range, it behaves like a two-seater GT sports car. The GT63 is the apex predator of the lineup, and it features a potent 4.0-liter Biturbo V8.

It offers brilliant handling that's surprising for a large sporty vehicle. Despite its performance potential, the GT doesn't skimp on luxury. The interior offers plenty of modern conveniences and tailored fine materials. While the ICE-powered GT63 is powerful enough, the GT63 S E Performance gets an electric motor bumping the output to 831 hp and 1,082 lb-ft of torque.

Most companies have a fully decked-out full-size SUV or large sedan as the flagship model. However, for Acura, the NSX is the flagship model. It utilizes a hybrid powertrain by combining a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 and three electric motors to offer blistering acceleration.

The setup can also offer a quiet, electric-only ride making the NSX a great daily driver sports car. Even though the NSX can't outpace rivals like the McLaren 570S and Audi R8, it will satisfy your need for speed. The hybrid combination gives the NSX an all-wheel drive setup where the V6 and one of the motors send power to the rear wheels, and the other two motors power the front wheels.

Ferrari is an iconic Italian supercar manufacturer that you wouldn't immediately associate with a plug-in hybrid car. However, in 2020, Ferrari introduced the SF90 as their hybrid supercar with 986 ponies. To date, the SF90 delivers otherworldly handling and blistering acceleration.

The interior of the SF90 is pretty luxurious, decked out with plenty of creature comforts, and lined with fine leather. The result is a gas-electric combination with a total output of 986 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque.
